Maronites in Lebanon is the first group in the Middle East that started emigrating and the migrants and their descendents outnumbers the population of Lebanon. Their history of migration shows not only situation of Maronites in Lebanon, but also demographic change of minority Christian groups in the Middle East at large. This article examines the history and characteristics of migration of Maronites from their emigration to Egypt for escaping economic and political difficulties in Lebanon and for contribution to the reformation of Muhammad Ali to the present. The article also examines how such migration affects personal life of contemporary Maronites who are residing in Lebanon empirically through a questionnaire survey.
