Among Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the three monotheistic religions, called as ‘Abrahamic Faith’, Judaism and Islam seem to have much in common on the one hand, but to demonstrate significant differences on the other hand. The representative disagreeing understanding between the two may be about the question who Abraham was commanded to sacrifice in his trial before God. In Judaismthe promised son Isaac was bound on the altar by his father, but in Islam the eldest son Ishma`elis believed to be the one. It is obvious that both stories cannot be right if the trial was given just once to Abraham. The study tries to address this question. It investigates what their texts, Miqra’ and Qur’an, tell us regarding Abraham’s trial. The relevant texts are Genesis 22:1-19 and Sura 37:100-113. The close observation in these paragraphs and their contexts shows that both texts are similar in structure and contents. And this enables a comparative study between them. Qur’an does not mention any name about the sacrificial son while Miqra’ specifies that God asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. However, the comparison between the two seems to confirm that the sacrificial son was Isaac if onesolely dependson thesetexts. As widely known, Miqra’ precedes Qur’an some 1,000 years. Accordingly, it is proper to assume that the Miqra’ic story had influence on the Qur’anic story. The fact that Qur’an avoids adopting the name Isaac in her story may reflect a certain historical setting in which the Jewish tradition was not acceptable.
