This articles explores national identity of the Tajikistan Republic focused on nationalism and regionalism on the formulation of nation building. In terms of nationalism, Tajikistan has been experiencing two varieties of nationalism: civic nationalism and ethnic or 'ethno-regional nationalism. This paper deals with the importance of the national identity with the Soviet formation of the state of Tajikistan in 1924 and being continued by the current government in its nation-building efforts, which is a daily and ongoing process. Ethnic or 'ethno-regional' nationalism is what led to the 1992-1997 civil war and is the more dangerous than civic nationalism. This paper traces the ancient history and mainly focuss the political surroundings including civil war after the collapse of Soviet Union. I concentrated national identity of the ideological changes and ideas after the Tajikistan's independence. I particularly studied Central Asia's national identity focused on Islam, nationalism, political authoritarian of the Central Asia' government. The paper also investigates the working of regionalism inside Tajikistan. In the process of civil war, regionalism has played a clear role in the politics of Tajikistan. The new leadership had its regional-ideological constituents not only from mainly ethnic Tajiks living in or originally from the Leninabad region, but from the Kulobis and the Kulob region as well. The analysis shows that national identity in Tajikistan is significant to understand nationalism and regionalism based on islamic revival and civil war. Ethnic nationalism has been calculated in competence with the Uzbekistan. Tajikistan's nationality existed in the present time with ethnic conflicts between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
