After a series of demonstrations in Arab countries called the Spring of Arab or a democratic revolution, the Arab society is standing at the crossroads of changing or maintaining the regime. In Tunisia where demonstrations in Arab countries were started, the revolution was appeased as the president chose to seek political asylum no less than one month after the revolution and the society is quickly being stabilized although demonstrations are breaking out sporadically. In the country, general elections were successfully finished in October 2011 in order to compose the Constituent National Assembly (majlis ta'sīsī). However, countries around Tunisia express lots of concern for the future of the country, where the En Nahda Party taking the greatest part of parliament seats stands for moderate Islam. After 1956 when the country became independent, Tunisia has adopted a platform of secularism based on Islam and, in particular, suggested an idealistic goal for enhancing the position of Muslim women by means of legislating a family law and implementing relevant national policies, recognizing the importance of women-related affairs. Nevertheless,as it is prospected that the national assembly will revise policies for women so as to intensify Islamic lines, the people’s anxiety about their society is increasing. This thesis is aimed to predict changes in policies for women in the light of recent political conditions in Tunisia. Considerations will be given to the changes which Tunisian women have been concerned about ever since the revolution and to what aspects the national assembly’s legislation about women will have, in order to forecast directions for changes in policies for women in Tunisia.
