While East-West comparative philosophy simply compares selected elements of Western philosophy and the Asian philosophical traditions, so-called ‘fusion’ philosophy seeks to solve philosophical problems using insights drawn from two traditions. While this approach has its difficulties, I argue that it is a promising path for those of us who value the study of Asian philosophy. I describe one example of such a project, and claim that at least in this case the benefits flow both ways: from East to West as well as from West to East.
