This paper aims to analyse second-person fictions (SPF) from linguistic point of view. The results are as follows. First, SPFs in Korean are defined as ‘the fictions of which the protagonist is referred to by second-person expression, or those in which the writer seems to try to address the readers. Second, SPFs in Korean are classified into ‘you≓reader’ and ‘you=protagonist’ type, and again the latter into ‘you=protagonist, from inside the story’ and ‘you=protagonist, from outside the story’ type. Third, in ‘you≓reader’ type fictions, the writer often uses strategies for inducing the readers to identify ‘you’ with themselves, for example using spoken style, and performative expressions, etc. Fourth, ‘you=protagonist’ type fictions strongly tend to be the form of interior monologue, and the use of ‘you’ results in distance adjustment between the narrator and protagonist, and inviting the empathy of readers with the protagonist. Fifth, in SPFs on the whole, the writer often defers to specify who ‘you’ are, by which the readers are made to feel suspense. Last but not least, SPFs have the effects of drawing attention by defamiliarization, making readers feel vivid, and emphasizing communication, as was argued in many previous studies.
