This study investigated the sociocultural meaning of fashion in old age by exploring the concept of old age, analyzing representations of old age in films, and identifying fashion attitudes towards and images of old age. The study conducted literature reviews on the socio-cultural history of old age and researched selected movies on old age. Using multidisciplinary approaches to old age and research on films, fashion attitudes and images of old age were investigated. The study revealed that aging was positively accepted as it is and was expressed as beauty itself. In addition, some older adults in the films demonstrated a positive and flexible attitude towards contemporary fashion trends. Furthermore, the study noted a desire to feel connected with close relationships and memories as well as a pattern of dressing as a way of healing. Finally, because old age is a time of reflection and a time when people often ponder death and life after death, interests in nature, one’s own self, and the connection with something temporary and eternal were all reflected in wearing clothes. In this case, older people demonstrated an indifference to trend; instead, they adopted simple styles with religious meaning and discarded excess clothing.
