This study aims to analyze the colors and color arrangements for children`s costumes off the latter Joseon Dynasty, and to understand the characteristics of the colors with the its historical value. Researches have been conducted through investigating the kinds of the costumes attested in relevant documents, records and analyzing the colors of 210 items of the relic. The children`s costumes were subdivided into three groups, one of royal family, noble people and another of ordinary people. Relevant materials are gained from「Bal-Ki」-The Records of Items and Quantities-, which lists the clothing items used by royal family and the relic of the costumes. The findings of this study are summarized in the following. In general, achromatic colors were most frequently used for the children`s costumes, followed by R series, Y series and PB series colors. Various bright color tones, like pink, dark pink and light yellow, centering on achromatic colors, were used for the children`s costumes, so as to express bright and light sentiments. Especially, Saek-Dong was hired based on the philosophical thoughts of the Yin-Yang Ohaeng(the five elements of the cosmic dual forces), in order to avoid evil and good wishes for the children`s health and long life. Moreover, primary colors were intervened with secondary ones in order to soften the flow of color sentiments and produce dramatic descriptions.
