The important policy tasks of our society are to raise the birth rate and economic activity rate. And for this, it should be solved of the difficulties in child care. Since it is difficult to care for elementary school students in nowadays, the purpose of this study was to suggest ways to improve the care program of elementary school children.
For carrying out this study, I compared and analysed the care programs for elementary school students in Korea. And I conducted a survey on needs of the 360 elementary school parents who are using care programs. And I suggested the improvement methods.
Even though Korea offers a variety of care programs, the most elementary school students still remain alone from the end of regular classes until the parents have left the office. Co-parenting after-school care was available in the evening, but costs were relatively high. Parents of elementary students felt that the children"s safe care, program contents and quality were the most important when choosing care programs. And most parents requested additional programs such as school subjects learning, checking homework, cultural experience, and field trip.
In conclusion, care services for elementary school students should consider the development of elementary school students and satisfy the needs of parents at the same time. Therefore, I suggested the establishment of a village-based education and care center for elementary school students.
