This study aims to estimate and analyze the regional economic impact of the Uljin Water-Pia Festival by use of Regional Input-Output(I-O) Model. To this end, the multipliers were derived with respect to output, income, value added and indirect tax based on the regional transactions tables" of Kyungbuk Province. The study also conducted festival visitor"s survey in order to estimate per capita expenditure.
Also, the theoretical background on the Regional Input-Output Model was suggested and related existing research was examined. Using the Regional Input-Output Model, the multipliers, influence and sensitivity coefficients of Kyungbuk Province were calculated.
The results show that the economic impact of regional tourism industry following the hosting of the Uljin Water-Pia Festival generated 8,858 million of output, 2,030 million of income, 189 full-time jobs and 4,351 million of value added. The result of this study can be used as an objective indicator and expects to suggest the strategic indication for the agency and the local government to establish and implement regional festival policies based on the backward continuous growth of Uljin Water-Pia Festival and the local economical activation.
