The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the possible differences of leisure functioning as reflected by three different educational status namely middle, high, and college students. In order to meet the purpose of this study, 1160 students attending various schools located in the city of Suwon were selected through systematic random sampling method. The ratio of sex(male:553, female, 590) and educational status(approximately 200 subjects for each group) of the selected subjects were almost equal and representative as study sample. Measurement tools for this study were Korean version of Leisure Diagonastic Battery(LDB). Questionnaire including LDB and background variables were administered for the collection of the data. Collected data were analyzed primarily utilizing analysis of variance(ANOVA). Within its limitations, this study came to the following findings: 1. There was a significant difference in leisure functioning as selected by gender. 2. There was no significant difference in leisure functioning in the level of middle school. 3. No significant leisure functioning difference was detected in the level of high school. 4. There was a significant difference in leisure functioning in the level of college. 5. It was found that the level of leisure functioning increased as the level of education upgraded in the case of male students. 6. It was found that the level of leisure functioning was not reflected by the level of education in the case of female students. 7. Leisure functioning of the male college student group ranked the highest followed by male high school group, female high school group, male middle school group, female middle school group, and female college group. Within limitations and based upon the findings obtained, this study concluded the degree of leisure functioning, perceived freedom state in leisure, is increased as the rite of passage moved to the higher status for the male school adolescents. However, for the female students, the degree of leisure functioning was not improved. Based upon these results, the method and direction for the leisure education for the female students in their daily life settings were suggested.
