There seems no clear definition or regulation about the Jjokbang(slice rooms), which is mentioned associated with terms such as homeless welfare, basic livelihood security, fire safety management, and crime victim. Researches on Jjokbang, which have become active after 2000 in Korea, are limited in the contents of living condition and health generally targeting the group of single residents in Jjokbang.
This study examined the life condition of jjokbang residents according to categories of welfare standards. 30 jjokbang residents in Daegu were interviewed face to face. After analyses of precedent studies on jjokbang and surveys by Daegu Jjokbang Counseling Office, the study composed items of the interview according to 5 criteria(income, housing, care, health, education) of 「Daegu Citizen Welfare Standards」.
This study is a qualitative research, which examines not only previous and current life conditions of jjokbang residents but also levels of satisfaction and necessity for welfare services. It could be used as a primary data for the policy making related to jjokbang.
