In this study, we examined the need to push for smart grid as an important contributor to environmental protection and low-carbon green development. We also look at smart grid industry ecosystem and players trends. Smart grids can generate various new businesses by converging with diverse industries can be done by cooperation and coexistence through “the stage of convergence” which creates synergy. Existing smart grid industry was focused on IT based enhancement of efficiency in power generation, transmission and distribution. However, when it is supported by appropriate government policy, its expansion to new smart industry and powerful growth through convergence with other industries will become obvious. The results of this research indicate optimistic and positive market and industry outlook on smart grids. However, we cannot ignore the time and money to be invested in this sector. Associated enterprises and institutes will have to make efforts to enhance efficiency in the area of added values and R&D development of smart grid industry and timely investment and research will need to be made.
