China’s novels of legal case are genres created through the unique material of crime cases. And it shows the change according to the demands of the times even after following Chinese narrative tradition. Although it is composed of relatively simple elements of crime and reason, it is not enough to attract the interest of readers.
This study analyzes the narrative structure of the 『Digong case』 a long- term novel of legal case, whose main character is an able premier of the time of the Tang Dynasty.
The 『Digong case』 is divided into the first half and the second half from the 30th. This study focuses on the three murders of the first half. According to the sequence of the events, following the universal narratives of legal case novels such as “incident occurrence”, “event recognition”, “case resolution process”, “criminal judgment”, the evils of Chinese novel of public’s narrative was minimized and through this, this work can be seen as a step closer to the modern mystery novel.
