The purpose of this study was to verify the value and validity of the color scheme incorporating the manual of urban environment color scheme which was created based on local colors with a focus on the color scheme of Suwon Sports Complex. So far, many local governments in Korea have developed symbolic colors, landscape colors, etc., and created the color manuals to establish urban identity, strengthen urban competitiveness, and improve the environment. However, the developed colors and manuals have not been used properly due to lack of understanding of color manual and occurrence of errors resulting in discrepancy from reference colors in the process of color application. The results of this study would provide a basis for increasing the utilization of the manuals by promoting proper use of color guideline manual of Suwon-si which was recently developed. For the color scheme of Suwon Sports Complex, we conducted indirect investigations such as literature study, internet survey, etc., and direct investigation such as photographing, on-site coloring, and visual inspection, etc. Based on the results of the investigations and analyses, the color concepts of the objects were determined and the color scheme was implemented consistently with the method of using the color guideline manual of Suwon-si. As a result, the 3 landscape colors of Suwon-si were used as dominant colors and 5 cultural colors of Suwon-si were used as the highlight colors when the color scheme of Suwon Sports Complex was planned. This researcher hopes that this study would provide a good example for color scheme using the environmental color scheme manual properly, thereby having a positive impact on improvement of domestic urban environment.
