The purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of the subsystems for speech production by the types of Cerebral Palsy (CP) by applying various tasks and measurements that can evaluate the characteristics of respiratory, phonatory, resonant, articulatory, and prosodic systems. The subjects were 32 speakers with spastic CP, 17 speakers with athetoid CP, 10 speakers with ataxic CP, and 35 CP-free speakers. The experiment was conducted by analyzing 13 sub-items and 27 parameters in four tasks (prolonged vowel utterance, diadochokinesis, counting, and reading). The conclusions obtained from this study were as follows; First, there were significant differences between speakers with CP and those without, but there were no differences among the types of CP in the characteristics of the respiratory system. Second, there were significant differences between speakers with CP and speakers without CP, but there were no differences among the types of CP in the characteristics of the phonatory system. Third, there were generally similar characteristics between speakers with CP and those without, but speakers with athetoid CP tended to differ with CP-free speakers in two tasks (diadochokinesis and reading), and there were no differences among the types of CP in the characteristics of the resonant system. Fourth, there were significant differences between speakers with CP and CP-free speakers in the characteristics of the articulatory system. Among the types of CP, speakers with athetoid CP had differences with speakers with spastic CP, but speakers with ataxic CP had no differences with speakers with spastic and athetoid CP in diadochokinetic tasks. Fifth, there were significant differences between speakers with CP and CP-free speakers, but there were no differences among the types of CP in the characteristics of the prosodic system. In conclusion, speakers with spastic, athetoid, and ataxic CP had similar characteristics in the subsystems for speech production, but they tended to differ by tasks in the articulatory system.
