Human capital has been widely recognized as one of the main sources for economic growth. Strangely enough, however, the literature shows that researchers have little paid attention to the role of human capital in regional economic growth. Hence, this paper attempts to improve the general understanding of regional economic growth by empirically analyzing the role of human capital and to propose a regional policy direction that can achieve the balanced regional economic growth. The panel data regression model is employed taking into consideration the problems of the heteroskedasticity and serial correlation. The paper performs the PP test for checking the unit root in regional economic data. It appears that the contribution of the human capital to regional economic growth is crucial. Also, the paper suggests that fixed effects model using growth rate of input factors is more appropriate than random effects model in analyzing regional economic growth.
