In Korea, MERS occurred in 2015, resulting 186 infected persons and 38 deaths. According to an epidemiological survey, the spread of the MERS infection occurred in the hospital. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) is expanding the negative pressure isolation room and making the operation more efficient. The main causes of the collapse of containment effect and cross-contamination associated with negative isolation rooms have been reported by various research, and include factors such as the movement of the medical staff, the velocity of the opening/closing of doors, and the temperature difference of each of room. In this study, CFD was used to analyze the pressure fluctuation and air exchange volume according to the opening and closing speeds of the hinged door, and the moving speed and direction of the medical staff. As a result, it was confirmed that a large pressure fluctuation and pressure reversal phenomenon existed due to the opening and closing of the hinged door. As the opening and closing speed of the hinged door and the moving speed of the medical staff are increased, the amount of air exchange volume between the negative pressure isolation room and anteroom increases due to the growth of the vortex and wake. Also, it is shown that the amount of air exchange volume varies depending upon the direction of the movement of the medical staff. In order to reduce cross-contamination, a more detailed standard operating procedure is required for the care of patients in the negative isolation room.
