The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of social support between family life events, parenting stress and depression in new mothers. After specifying a research model based on stress process perspective, the investigation analysed the model using structural equation modeling. The data for this study came from a sample 2,078 Korean Children Panel. The results showed the both measurement model and structural model had a good fit to the data and all paths of structural model were statistically significant. The main findings were family life events and parenting stress had direct and indirect effects on depression in new mothers. Social support had mediating effects of family life events and parenting stress on depression. The implications for practical intervention and further research in the field of depression of mothers were discussed.
