  The purpose of this study is to investigate the training conditions of field practice in the nursery schools and the way of improvement from the students who major in child-caring in college. In order to fulfill this purpose, we surveyed total 395 trainees as subject who attend the colleges located in Kyung-gi Do, after they have finished field practice in the nursery schools during the summer vacation. The tool of the study is the improved version of questionnaire originally developed by J. W. Park(2000), and from the answers to the questionnaire the frequency, percentage, and mean values were obtained. To find the dependence on the types of the nursery schools, x2- and t-test have been performed.
  The result of the study can be summarized as follows:
  1. They have trained 4 weeks in average and got 40,000 won as a pay. Expense for the preparing training tools was divided into two category: below 20,000 won and 30,000~50,000 won. Lunch was supplied by the school for free. They usually trained in the class of 5 to 6 years old children, and consequently, they acquire restricted experience of children with certain ages.
  2. They devote most of the time to the living guidance, and suffered from the difficulties in activity guidance. Activity guidance consist of both whole-day guidance and short-time guidance, and it is thought that the most difficult thing is to communicate with children during the activity guidance.
  3. A guidance from the regular child carer was not satisfactory.
  4. To promote the effectiveness of field practice, more opportunity of field practice should be given. More practical contents of the practice class is also required.
  5. Discrepancy between the reality and what have learned in class should be improved. Improvement concerning about the evaluation of the field practice and writing diary of field practice is also required.
  Based on the aforementioned results, suggestions for the improvement of field practice was made as follows:
  1. To give more opportunity of field practice, present 4 week practice should be lengthened.
  2. It is desirable that the qualification of the child carer who guide field practice is restricted to the first-grade licence barer with field experience more than 1 year.
  3. To make fruitful field practice, a standard content of field practice should be developed.
  4. To minimize the expense of the nursery schools in which field practice is carried out, a supporting fund is required.
  5. Items concerning about the guidance of the field practice should be included in the in-service and promotion training of the child carer and the principal of the nursery school.
