This study aims to analyze archery athlete’s experiences of best performance in the three phases of the archery game procedure: before standing on the shooting line, on the shooting line, and after finishing shooting. 81 athletes from middle school, high school, university, and professional teams were the subjects. The study applied the inductive content analysis into the open questionnaires. A total of 414 concepts were deducted. Based on the results, the perception process of making best performance was phased. Results are as follows. Firstly, the experiences before standing on the shooting line are classified into 142 concepts, 18 subcategories, and 6 categories. They experience the uncontrolled psychology most. Anxiety and tug-of-war control psychology, behavior-focus, and body control are followed. Accordingly, the stage before standing on the shooting line is defined as the perception phase in the process of best performance. Secondly, the experiences on the shooting line are categorized into 136 concepts, 20 subcategories, and 6 categories. Most of them are behavior-focus, followed by best mental state, flowing mind, deep breathing to control tension, and negative thoughts. Based on this classification, the stage on the shooting line is defined as the performing phase of best performance. Lastly, the experiences after finishing shooting reveal 137 concepts, 15 subcategories, and 5 categories. The majority of category is assessment and reflection for the future. Satisfied positive mentality, feeling free, self-soothing and self-conviction are followed. Therefore, the stage after shooting is named as the assessment phase of best performance.
