This study explored and reviewed basic concepts about extreme anxieties about death and oldness through existing literatures on attitudes toward death and death anxiety in American and Korean young adults, and to provide conclusions and suggestions for future studies. Among Asians, Korean attitudes toward death has been strongly associated with the philosophical or religious thinking of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. According to these thinking, death was not viewed as separate from life or as an end in Korean culture, but as a transition in life and a continuous and integral part of life. In order to do that, more studies targeting on Korean young adults should be conducted to identify factors related to attitudes toward death and fear of death/death anxiety. Also, it is important to develop measurements and validate them to other cultures so that we can find the differences and common factors among attitude towards death and death anxiety across cultures. In our life, anxiety is normal.
