The purpose of this case study was to increase the effectiveness of group counseling for the stroke elderly. I counseled 11 stroke elderly people who was referraled from the M social welfare center. I applied to the therapeutic model of group therapy, cognitive behavior therapy and reminiscence therapy. The therapeutic skills used psychological support in eight weekly sessions on the topics of formation of rapport, the accomplishment of positive self-esteem through reminiscence, disclosure of self emotion, stress management and relaxation, recover of cognitive ability, and goal setting on the positive future. The results showed that the group counseling was effective in decreasing the level of depression of the stroke elderly. The results of Wilcoxon Signed Rank test on the pre and post-score of Geriatric Depression Scale was statistically significant. The limitations and suggestions for future research were also discussed.
