The ignorant soldier tales have handed down abundantly in Korean folk tales. Actually there had been many ignorant soldier in Joseon dynasty. There are three types in the tales on the ignorant soldier which are illiteracy soldier type, knowledge displaying soldier type and hard-studying soldier type.
The illiteracy soldier type is on the uneducated soldier. The knowledge displaying soldier type is on the soldier who have pretended to know letter or compose a poem. The hard-studying soldier type is on the soldier who have pursued his studies.
There have been found different cognition on the ignorant soldier. The illiteracy soldier type have joking understanding. The knowledge displaying soldier type have joking understanding and critical recognition all together. The hard-studying soldier type have enlightening the uneducated soldier who have both wisdom and courage.
In the meantime, the ignorant soldier’s literal act have culturally symbolic meaning. The civilian have disclosed soldier’s ignorance so that show off their’s cultural superiority. On the other side, the soldier have expressed their’s desire which have been appointed to upper classes culturally. The soldier who have both wisdom and courage is the newly character and ideal official in Joseon dynasty.
