Since the death of Kim Jong-il in December 2011, North Korea's long-range rocket launch and third nuclear test, the removal from power of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s uncle, Jang Song-thaek are causing concerns that the North Korea might soon launch its fourth nuclear test. In such situations, we have to make all preparations against any threats, including bioterrorism on the volatile environment of the Korean Peninsula under the North Korean leadership of young Kim Jong-un. Therefore, there is a need for building a real-time detection system for the presence of aerosol pathogens in the air when the biological terror which might cause the mass destruction occur. This paper describes the BioWatch system Gen-1/2 which is presently deployed, and Gen-3 being developed in the United States for detecting aerosol pathogens in the air, the aerosol based system for monitoring biological toxins developed in South Korea and suggests the need for building a domestic system for detecting aerosol pathogens in the air such as the BioWatch system.
