The purpose of this research is to learn about changes of civil-military relations in China since Jiang Zemin era. For this purpose, I analyze the civil-military relations in China using the theory of Amos Permutter and William M. Leogrande. They researched the civil-military in communist country exploiting political dependency and professionalism. Civil-military relations in China were transformed from symbiotic relations to coalitional relations since Jiang Zemin era. Dependency of People’s Liberation Army(PLA) was reduced, because political participation of military was reduced and control of party was gradually strengthened. And according to the changes in awareness of modern warfare of the Chinese Communist Party(CCP), CCP promoted the military modernization and professionalization. Thus, mutual roles of PLA and CCP were gradually differentiated and specialized, because political participation of military was reduced and control of party was gradually strengthened. Namely, CCP pursued to depoliticization of military and maintained principle that CCP always controls the PLA. Therefore, PLA will be loyal to supreme leaders of CCP. And PLA will be strengthen the influence associated with military issues.
