Emphasis on the difference of sex role brought a new angle of sight to dance by putting dance into social description. On the one hand, the sentimental atmosphere of the times came to manifest itself in the form of dance art. Dance art has penetrated into our life, restricted our behavior and entrapped our selves into the ideological frame. In dance art, feminism has exerted a great influence on human liberation. This can be found when an understanding of the public at large about it shown in dance art is seen. The transformation of a woman image in the history of ballet theater art is not so strange. 「Giselle」 deals with human impulse, psychological and social obsession and constraints. 「Jardin aux Lilas」 acknowledges not only the expectation that marriage becomes the destiny of most women but the fact that the marriage system lays the foundation for power and wealth. When $lt;Rodeo$gt; is looked into, man and woman construct the bipolar image and in its material and theme the fixed value-view of society finds expression. And it presents the situation of those striving to find out their social role. In fact, it is seen that dance has been involved in the worries and agonies that have gradually increased in Europe and the U.S. in relation to the marriage associated with the fate of woman especially at least since the French Revolution. Ballet and post-modern dance are not only dancers` community but the respectable world, and those women s choice of marriage in dance has been an on-going theme and concern. They repeatedly show the channel of marriage whether women may be the non-protagonist of the social system (Giselle), be influenced by the custom of society though they choose marriage themselves (Rodeo) or be the pioneering ones of the love marriage. When past arts and literature are investigated, it can be found that dance has been involved in the cultural conversation surrounding marriage and will continue to be in the future. The image of woman does not only have an influence in describing the state of her body itself but also moves toward the themes on sex and the dominant social principle of mating through the marriage system. Arlette Farge, a French feminist, discusses the stereotyping of both what she calls a unfortunate interpretation and what she call a blissful interpretation of woman s role presented in history. This study agrees with her argument. If an attempt is made to take a careful look into the dance work itself without thinking whether the image of woman is negative or positive, the image of woman in the dance work allows us to find out a new image of woman above all. This is an opportunity to be able to combine the negative aspect and the positive aspect, opens the way for both of them to have the possibility of a little intricate presentation for a critical function to be served, and make us attentive to enhancing the social value related to the image of woman and have the eye for being able to guide it towards a new context. Focused on guiding us to be awakened to a truly new fact, this study was intended to break down the fixed idea of man and woman and to change the true picture of actualities in addition. She leaves room for diverse interpretations by carefully ruminating the man-woman relationship in history under the basic proposition that man and woman are equal, unlike the aggressive feminism that clamors for the enhancement of woman s rights and benefits. She criticizes the fact that history has accumulated the image of woman that woman is man`s helper and the agent for reproducing the servant of the mankind as well. Influenced by feminism, woman tends to proceed to engraft feminism into dance and her own life in a clear-cut manner. It is important that woman should not forget the perspective of looking at life from her subjective position and demonstrate the interrelationship between society and dance in which sex is not discriminated. The image of the dance work may be feminized in a narrow sense because of woman's socially and conventionally educated illiberal angel of sight, but education to socialize a desirable image of woman must be one field of culture that can be put to practical use as the guideline in dance
