This paper discusses how Yeats takes the elements of the Japanese Noh drama and uses them in The Only Jealousy of Emer. His experiments in this play broaden the scope of traditional English drama, laying down the cornerstone of the emerging Modernist drama. In this play, based on Irish tradition, he harmonizes the past with the present, this with that world. Yeats, as in the Noh drama, such as Nishikigi, makes use of traditional Irish tales, with an emphasis on the value of love between lovers.
