Report Errors

Contemporary Korean society witnesses social conflicts caused by various phobias. This study focuses on one of the various phobias, i.e., a religious phobia, which is found private but explicit and widespread in society. The purpose of this study is to reveal a phobia against a particular religion, Islamophobia, for which it explores the history and situation of Islam in Korea, when Islamophobia took place for the first time, and the features of Islamophobia in Korea. It also examines how a religion can bring about peaceful coexistence, overcoming differences and discriminations. It is finally suggested that multicultural religious education from an intercultural perspective can help overcome Islamophobia in Korean society.
