The study analyzes not only how authentic leadership (AL) predicts employees’ positive affect, hope and job engagement, but also how positive affect and hope predict job engagement and innovative behaviors in flight attendants. In addition, the study analyzes how employees’ positive affect predicts their hope and how their job engagement predicts their innovative behaviors. Three hundred and seventy seven employees working in cabin crews of airline companies in Korea participated in the research. Employees reported their positive affective states, hope, job engagement and innovative behaviors, as well as the authentic leadership of their supervisors. The main findings are: (a) AL predicts employees’ positive affect, hope and job engagement; (b) employees’ positive affect predicts their hope and job engagement; (c) employees’ hope predicts their job engagement and innovative behaviors; (d) Employees’ job engagement predicts their innovative behaviors. The study enriches the understanding of the processes through which AL improves employees’ innovative behaviors, and provides valuable insights for both scholars and managers. By promoting AL and employees’ positive affect, hope, and job engagement, organizations may increase employees’ innovative performance, innovation being an important path to organizational performance.
