The Joseon dynasty established Confucianism, a systemized form of the Ye-Ak ideology of Confucius, as the basic ideology of the country. In diplomatic encounters with neighboring countries, the ideology of the dynasty was signified through Ye(禮), which was then expressed through Ak(樂).
The musicians(Ak-in) who accompanied the Korean envoys to Japan during the Joseon dynasty were Yang-in or Cheon-in, like the musicians at Jang-ak-won, meaning that they were of low social status. The Ch’wisu were dressed in black straw hat with peacock feather, red robe, blue belt, and black shoes, while the Ta-su were dressed in red felt hat with sang-mo, resembling a military uniform of the time, red robes, pale blue jeon-bok on blue dongdari, a belt, and black shoes.
