The 1960s was the period of beginning of modern industrialization in Korea. The modernization project, which was promoted with US aid and national policy support, is characterized by the full introduction of modern institutions, disciplines, and technologies. This study aims to explore the process of replacing the old technology and technician with new technology and technicians during the industrialization process of the 1960s through the diary of a casting engineer. In the context of Korean society, this is not a matter of simple generation shift. It was a process of switching from "the old" to "the new" or discarding old ones through new ones. With the backing of the state, the company quickly had adopted modern technology as well as scientific management techniques, and it had clearly expressed its support for new technologies and technicians. In the face of the challenges of new ones, the old engineers had to find ways for them to respond in both inside and outside the workplace. They built a strong alliance with their old colleagues to keep their influence in the workplace and to maintain a friendly relationship with the company through cooperative labor relations. It was possible because the company still needed old engineers in terms of both technical and non-technological aspects.
