This paper examines the socio-political and religious developments of Egypt after 2011 revolution and their implications for contemporary missions in Egypt. As a part of the sweeping Arab Springs, Egyptian civilians succeeded in driving out the long-standing dictator in the 2011 revolution and elected the first civil government and the first civil president Mohamed Morsi. But the president Morsi backed up by Muslim Brotherhood failed to meet the needs of the majority of Egyptians. Rather his government eroused serious political conflicts that led to the instability of the society. Consequently, the military regime took over the political leadership by the assumed expectation of the majority of Egyptians for the much needed political and social stability. While the current government endeavors to take Egypt into the right direction by improving living conditions through economic development and social justice, several challenges such terrorist attacks and a sluggish economic recovery continue to hinder Egypt from moving forward for a better future.
After reviewing the political development after the revolution, this study identifies several main characteristics of the socio-religious and political complexity in Egypt in order to propose relevant missions strategies and necessary preparations for the anticipated spiritual awakening in Egypt.
