We consider the problem of determining common due-date as well as schedule on parallel machines for the objective of minimizing the sum of due-date assignment, earliness and tardiness penalties. The problem, an extension of the problem on a single-machine, has been proved to be NP hard, and hence search heuristics are suggested after characterizing the solution properties. The search heuristics, tabu search and simulated annealing algorithms, are based on the neighborhood generation methods developed for the problem considered in this paper. Computational experiments were done on a number of test instances and the test results show that some of them outperform the existing one.
