This study aims to present the experiences of 7 small church pastor with 5~25 years of ministry experiences. The ministerial setbacks which appear and personal answers to overcome the obstacles have also been discussed. As results show, the experiences of small church pastor can be divided into 4 areas.
First, the recognition of the small church as biased and not being included within the boundary of choice and the limits realized in society. For this, the essence of the church in accepting one soul as more precious than the whole world, which leads to the pursuit of faith community is seen as the strength of the small church.
Secondly, the letting go of members to the big church for satisfying the need of the members and for their benefit. And the struggle and hopelessness and limitations experiences as a result. As such, 1:1 caring and relationship building is focused as well as, the effort to deepen the relationship.
Third, the need of the pastor’s family. Financial hardship, lack of organized Sunday school, and unable to offer provide the opportunity or Christian education is apparent.
However, the life of the pastor’s kid in the church is used as leadership training. We are not little comforted to this fact.
Fourthly, Pastor’s self concern. Delay in church growth and experience of failure and hopelessness and exhaustion rising from excessive work.
