The purpose of this study is to examine the lexical characteristics of Tourism Research Paper Abstracts. To compile the corpus, all English abstracts of Journal of Tourism & Leisure Research from 2007 to 2016 were saved as the text files. This small specialized corpus is composed of 296,559 words. After building the corpus, WordSmith Tools 6 program was used to extract the frequent words and the key words of the abstracts. The collocates of ‘study’ and ‘research’ were also investigated. The frequent word and key word lists extracted show that they are related to the tourism and the characteristics of the abstracts. They also show what kind of topics are dealt with in the field of tourism for last 10 years. These word lists are expected to be helpful for the learners and researchers in the area of tourism to understand and write the abstracts of journals.
