Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the design process, method and tool for usability improvement during prototype development of hand work assistive robot for physical disabled. Background: There is not much design guideline or standard for usability of assistive device. However, user interface and usability of assistive device are most important factors. Therefore, It should be encourage to many study for enhancing usability of assistive device. Method:We reviewed development process and method of hand work assistive robot prototype against usability engineering process of IEC 62366. And we divided hand work assistive robot’s development process to user research and usability evaluation. Results: Development methods for improvement usability of hand work assistive robot (Persona, persona based scenarios, work space, user interface design and usability evaluation) have features by case characteristics. Conclusion: Designer have other perspective and methods in design of assistive technology. Application: The results of the hand work assistive robot’s development process analysis might help to enhancing the usability of assistive technology.
