As a Compact city is a concept that contrast with urban sprawl, that a concept of urban planning with the jobs-housing accessibility and accessibility improvements to reduce travel demand through the mixed use of the land and intensive development of urban areas. Recently, there has been a growing debate on the development of compact city as ans alternative to sustainable develoment in urban areas, due to the problems caused by the urban sprawl of urban areas and the resulting concern about traffic energy consumption and climate change. In this study, the previous research on the environmental advantage of the compact city is the main research, and the research on the merit of the compact city characteristic factor in the economic aspect is insufficient. Compact city, high-density development, improve accessibility, planning elements, such as the mixed use of the land by integrating the industry, it can be an urban space structure that can cause economic growth and regional innovation of the region on. through the improvement of enterprise productivity and the gain of integrated economy such as creation of emploment and service industries.
Therefore, in this study, selected indicators of the elements of the urban characteristic that forms a compact city urban spatial structure, elements of the selected compact city characteristic wants to analyze what effect the regional innovation.
In the scope of the study, the temporal range was set to 2014, and the spatial range was selected as 85 cities in South korea.
As a method of analysis, multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the extent of the impact of the comprehensive urban characteristic factors on the regional innovation, prior to analysis, the multi-collinearity diagnosis among the explanatory variables constituting the compressive urban planning elements of each city the linear relationship between the independent variables used in the study was analyzed.
It is possible to examine whether the correlation between the explanatory variables decreases the reliability of the regression model. As a result, population density, accessibility of public transportation, and urban greening rate were found to have positive (+) influence on the compact city characteristic factors. Especially, the higher the population density, the treater the aggregate economic effect and the greater the regional innovation
Through this study, the compact city characteristic factor, which from an economic aspect can be presented suggestions in order to formulate a policy for the promotion and development of critical power elements regional innovation of regional economic growth it is expected that.
