This study analyzed globalization, multiculturalism, and identity with a focus on their concepts and issues. Making rapid progress starting in the second half of the 20th century, globalization is currently ruling human life. The world is increasingly closer due to the development of transportation and IT technologies with rising mutual communication. As a result, cultural contacts are on the rise with multiculturalism expanding gradually. The spread of multiculturalism has, however, resulted in clashes between different identities and caused damage to social stability. As it is believed that the cultural conflicts currently spreading in the West are the outcomes of acceptance of multiculturalism, the national leaders around the globe have declared that they will give up on multiculturalism. However, multiculturalism is not the only cause of the conflicts of Western society. The market-oriented thinking has got to dominate the entire world with the deconstruction of labor going on in the Western society in the spreading process of neo-liberalism after the fall of Berlin Wall. As a result, democracy has been damaged, and the identity distinction between the social classes has been highlighted further and combined with ethnic identity, thus promoting ethnic ghettoization. This study explored the ways to reduce conflicts caused by identity by examining various views of understanding culture.
