The researches on the Art History of Korea during 2013~2014 could be evaluated as success in extending its boundary on each sections arguing various subjects and methods. As it is shown in the research achievements of each genre, the overall studies are focused on the arts of Joseon Dynasty. Among the arts of Joseon, the researches on the arts of rituals or related materials as much as the Royal Tombs of Joseon Dynasty have increased. The researchers have paid attention to the Confucianism and the rituals, which was a dominant principle of Joseon and has been internalized during the whole time. While the attention for the royal family of Joseon Dynasty and the rituals of Confucianism is increasing, the Buddhist arts after the two great wars, Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and the Manchu War of 1636, are investigated for the time being.
The researches on ‘image’ in modern art history reflects the new approach of the art historical method that has concentrated on the visual culture. Traditionally thought to be important methods of research on the art history, such as the iconology and the styles, are no longer appliable since researchers do not focus on the historic masterpieces. A development in the new methodology is inevitable when the research fields are extending toward the outside of academic boundary. This means that the field extension of Korean Art History in 2013~2014, is still on process.
