Recent and continuous offences show the importance of officers’ first responses after the reception of 112 reports in arresting suspects and protecting victims. According to the ‘Survey on Police Officers’ Perceptions’ conducted by the Korean National Police Headquarter in 2012, citizens reported that the smartest officers should be assigned to 112 Integrated Control Office which receive and operate crime report, and the officers should be professional in their works. It is the good example of citizens’ high expectations for police and the importance of 112 report.
The aim of this research is to study the significance of 112 reporting system which is the representative of emergency report number to strengthen the responses to serious crimes. 112 report is very significant because it is the first tool which citizens ask the government for help when they are exposed to crimes. More specifically, it is more important for the victims of serious crimes because they are directly related to life and property.
In this study, the problems between state police which receive 112 report and police department which dispatch officers were classified and analyzed. In addition, policies for the improvement of system were suggested. 112 report which is the icon of police has become necessary for citizens, so this study contribute to the development of police that protect citizens’ lives and property.
