Considering the important role of municipal police system recently, this study is to suggest effective ways that increase the level of municipal police officers' commitment through analyzing the relation between job characteristics and organizational commitment from Jeju municipal police officers. It examines not only effects of job characteristics on organizational commitment, but also the mediated effect of job satisfaction on the relation between job characteristics and organizational commitment. In order to conduct to this purpose, the survey was administrated to all municipal police officers in Jeju city. In result, all of job characteristics described in this paper had significant effects on job satisfaction, and also indirect effects on value commitment through the mediated effect of job satisfaction, while the job characteristics showed no relation with continuous commitment. Only, had opportunities on progress and development, among job characteristics, both direct and indirect influence on value commitment. Taking the results above mentioned into consideration, most of all, positive recognition on job characteristics is necessary to increase the level of job satisfaction of municipal police officers. Specifically, securing independence and flexibility on their engagement and keeping the rapport with colleagues should be implemented. In addition, it is necessary to raise the sense of pride on their job and to enlarge the variety type of skills. Most importantly, providing municipal police officers with various chances to be progressive in their field plays a crucial role in job satisfaction and value commitment, which are possible by enlarging the organizational capacity as well as increasing the quality of job training.
