This study aims at introducing the police training system with reference to recruit and promotion in Great Britain. According to the national learning strategy set by the Police Training and Development Board, the goal of the strategy of for promoting learning in the police service is to contribute to improving performance through learning, thereby helping to develop an efficient and effective police service, fit for role. All the stages of recruit, training and promotion are rigorously managed and operated in accordance with this national strategy. National Occupation Standard (NOS) and Integrated Competency Framework (ICF) are all developed in order to make sure the standardization of a high-quality police recruit, training and promotion test and assessment process. The High Potential Development Scheme (HPDS , the scheme is currently under review) is a structured career framework that can lead to the most senior positions within the police service. If an officer has what it takes to be a police leader, the scheme helps him/her develop the necessary professional and personal skills. Despite some criticisms on the lack of street-level field experience of the HPD candidates, the HPDS might suggest that it is important for the Korean police to identify and develop police officers and staff with exceptional potential. Some other British approaches to the investment in people were recommended as an advanced system for the improvement of the Korean police.
