The fuel combustion for heating in residential, commercial and public buildings is the second largest emission source of NOx in Seoul. Also, the energy consumption in residential, commercial and public buildings is the largest in Seoul. Therefore, the management of heating appliances, boilers, is an important subject from not only the perspective of NOx emission reduction but also the perspective of energy saving.
The main objective of this study is to find out environment-friendly management of boiler, considering both air pollutant emission such as NOx and energy consumption. This study is composed of three main parts. In the first part, we deduced the problems and issues on boiler management by investigating current regulations and polices for boilers. In the second part, we collected the information for the technical development of boiler and for what foreign countries have been doing to manage pollutant emission from boiler. In the third part, we suggested approaches to environment-friendly management of boiler.
