Gillian Armstrong has screened the feminist critics’ strategy in the film adaptation of Little Women(1994), being interested in Alcott’s biographical proofs to prove her feminist tendency rather than the open message of the didactic narrative for women to be domestic, passive and self-sacrifice. She has made the novel into a successful film, which underpins and appeals to contemporary feminist sentiment. The film adopts the main characters such as Marmee, Amy, Beth, and Jo and their episodes and makes it as a new feminism one in the 20th century. She moves beyond many feminist critics who note biographical reflections of Alcott in Jo who suggests the Alcott’s inner spirit of fearless and progressive and combine the author and other characters, being able to redirect their central characters’ motivations and goals, making them champions of feminist causes and women unafraid to speak up for themselves in a world dominated by men. Armstrong’s Little Women may not accurately describe the lives of nineteenth-century women but reveals a great deal about how contemporary women view themselves now. Thus, Armstrong’s Little Women allows us to see ourselves with the kind of agency to transform even the legacy of a restrictive past into a history of female triumph.
