The aim of this study is to improve English receptive skills of low-level learners and their attitudes through English lesson model. The participants of this study were 39 low-level English learners enrolled in a level-based English class. They were attending a public middle school in Iksan city in North Jeolla province. The experiment was carried out over four months. The participants were divided into two groups: a control group and an experimental group. The control group studied English through the traditional grammar-translation teaching method, while the experimental group experienced a teaching model developed for this study. The results of this study were as follows: the English lesson model using dictations, the Golden Bell games, and English chants showed a positive effect on learners’ English receptive skills and learners’ attitudes and other related affective components. On the basis of these findings, this case study shows that the English lesson model may be effective for low-level learners in regard to their English receptive abilities and attitudes toward English learning.
