Objective: The aim of this paper is to study and develop the ergonomics experimental evaluation system for response characteristic of operators in nuclear power plants (NPPs). Background: There are new human factors issues, such as evaluation of information navigation, the consideration of operator characteristics, and operator performance assessment because of introduction of an advanced main control room. The need of the ergonomics experimental evaluation system is issued especially in the design and regulation approach. The application of general ergonomics evaluation is difficult for operators in NPPs directly. Therefore, the establishment of the experimental technologies is needed in order to solve these human factors issues. Method: This study investigates work environment and physiologic signal measurement, interface and performance evaluation in ergonomics experimental technologies. To apply them in the nuclear industry, the study is focused on physiologic signal and the ergonomics experimental system includes task design and measurement for experiment, data collection and analysis. Results/Conclusion: This study suggests a new process for the ergonomics experiment to apply in NPPs. Application: The results of this study can be applied to the experimental evaluation of human system interface designs, experiments for the collection of human error data and analysis of operator’s cognitive mechanism.
