This paper shows that there is a limit to analyse Samsung Electronic using Cluster theory, P. Michael’s management theory, or Global value chain
Cluster theory is based on an assumption that all cluster have possibility of development, and can be developed if it is left to market after endogenous conditions are very formed.
Therefore, Cluster theory can’t explain why only a few of selected clusters achieve success.
Unlike Cluster theory which empathizes only a cooperative relationship between agents in a cluster, GNP theory pays attention to unequal power relationship between economic units.
However, GNP theory fails to suggest a thoughtful understanding of how an inherent contradiction between capital and labor in capitalism economy affects local development.
This paper shows that both Samsung’s strategy of technology chase and prior occupation and international vertical mass production manufacturing process which play a role of locomotive in Samsung Way depend on an extreme meritocratic reward system and labor saving supply chain.
This paper also points to the fact that Samsung Way is not free from a wide use of innovative technology, stiffen competition, and pressure on fall in profitability
