Recently, the need for interdisciplinary research is being increased in social sciences including business administration and economics as well as other academic areas. It stems from the necessity of interdisplinary approach in understanding complex social and economic phenomena and solving relevant problems. In addition, increasing demand for converged knowledge and skills in industries and education should be supported by interdisciplinary research. However, institutions and cooperations among academic sectors required to promote interdisciplinary research are still lacking in in many social sciences and academia. In this study, academic environment for interdisciplinary research in social sciences in Korea is reviewed and useful preparations for promotion of interdisciplinary research are suggested.
