This paper examines works by Kim Soo-young from the perspective of “form” and studies the orientation of form and its relationship with “content.” By doing so, this paper intends to prove that for Kim Soo-young, “form” means “ethical form.”
Form has two different meanings to Kim Soo-young. First, form is “place of langue” where detailed aspects of life and problems are described. Thus, the poet tried to reveal and reproduce life by choosing and adopting specific nouns that were widely used in a daily life. Second, form is operation of language with which individual beings show differences. His choice and development of unique nouns which can be called “vacuum language” is a way to maximize mobility of language.
In addition, repetition is a method that clearly demonstrates the poet’s concept of form. Through repetition, he showed various differences and acquired aesthetic novelty. Here, repetition does not mean repeating the same meaning of signifiers but exploring the potential of predicates by eradicating central and fixed meaning in sentences. That is, by repetition, the fixed meaning of a subject or a common noun was weakened while differences of exsistents and temporary phases were vividly expressed by predicates. Likewise, repetition is a formative way to narrate the real meaning and value of existents. In this regard, his poets have a ethical form that horizontally depicts the value of all existents.

It is in line with his theory of poetry, so-called theory of the whole body and above all, his works are precious examples of “practices of literature,” which resisted to totalitarianism and standardization.
